Amber Heard Paid Johnny Depp His $1 Million Settlement — Here’s Where It’s Going

Amber Heard has reportedly paid out the $1 million settlement she owed Johnny Depp following his defamation suit against her. The reduced fee was agreed upon by both parties in order to put the whole thing to rest — Heard was originally ordered to pay him more than $10 million. Thankfully her insurance ponied up the cash here, so she hasn’t had to come out of pocket (though she did sell her beloved desert home and move to Madrid to get away from all the negative press).

In any case, the former “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor is now in receipt of a pretty huge chunk of change, but he’s not holding onto it. Johnny Depp actually donated his entire settlement to five different charities as a gesture of goodwill.

According to TMZ, the $1 million settlement has been split equally between five of Johnny Depp’s favorite charities. That means $200 each will go to some pretty good causes. First, the Make-A-Film Foundation works with terminally ill kids to help them make creative short movies. There’s also The Painted Turtle, which is a camp for sick kids to go and have tons of fun and forget their worries, even if only temporarily.

The Tetiaroa Society is also getting a $200K donation, which will go towards preserving the ecosystem on the Pacific island of the same name. The Amazonia Fund Alliance helps to protect indigenous communities in the Amazon and will certainly appreciate the donation, as well Red Feather, which works house Native Americans in need.

TMZ further claims that the donations to The Painted Turtle and Tetiaroa Society are nods to two of his favorite actors, Marlon Brando and Paul Newman. It was Newman who founded The Painted Turtle, and Brando was passionate about protecting Tetiaroa.

Now that this really is over and Johnny Depp has donated his settlement, let’s hope this is the last we’ll ever have to hear about this case.
