Am I In Love? Signs You’re Actually In Love And It’s Not Just Butterflies

When you’re dating someone and you’re crazy about them, it can be hard to know when your feelings jump from a casual crush to something more serious and potentially more long-term. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “Am I in love?” and you’re just not sure, look for these signs that it’s finally the real deal.

  1. You feel all over the place emotionally. When you’re in love with a guy, you feel incredibly emotionally unstable. In one breath, you’re flying high: your heart is racing, your stomach is flipping, you feel over the moon. The next minute, you feel sick to your stomach, you can’t eat or sleep, and you wonder if you’ll ever feel normal again. There’s a reason this happens: your feelings for him are growing!
  2. You start aligning yourself with your partner. This happens naturally when you’re head over heels with someone. You start to pick up some of the same hobbies and interests, you listen to the same music, and you suddenly seem much more similar than you did even when you first met. This isn’t to say that either of you should be pretending to be someone you’re not for the sake of the relationship. However, if you naturally gravitate towards the same things, you can pretty much bet you’re in love.
  3. You spend more time than not thinking about your partner. When you fall for someone, they tend to occupy a great majority of your headspace. No matter what else you have going on in life, thoughts of this person are always at the forefront of your mind. In fact, you’d love to be able to think of anything else but you just can’t!
  4. You can’t get enough of sappy love songs. All those stupid love songs on the radio that you used to hate are now suddenly relatable or even sweet. In fact, you find yourself seeking that kind of music out, looking for any song that can capture a bit of how you feel about this person. Sorry, you’re a walking stereotype and are acting exactly the way a person in love is expected to act.
  5. You show signs of emotional dependency. You may have tried to hold back from letting yourself get too attached to this person, but sooner or later, you find yourself growing accustomed to their presence and feeling a little upset when it’s not there. You want to talk to them about news, good or bad, before anyone else. You want to know their thoughts and feelings and you always consider them when making decisions in life.
  6. You miss them the minute they’re no longer around. It’s natural and important for couples to spend time apart doing their own thing. You know it’s the healthy thing for your relationship long-term, but that doesn’t mean you don’t hate it sometimes. As soon as your partner leaves, you miss them and can’t wait to be together again. Why’s that? You’re in love, that’s why.
  7. You can’t stop thinking about your future together. Even the most logical person in the world loses their cool when they fall in love. If you find yourself fantasizing about all the things you’re going to do and the places you’re going to go in the future, you’re clearly head over heels. Same goes for thinking about having kids together or getting married – ah, that’s the fantasy!
  8. You feel like you’re at home when you’re with them. This is perhaps the biggest sign of all that you’re in love. Whenever you’re together, you feel like you’ve finally found a safe space, a place where you can be loved and accepted for who you are. It feels amazing.
