Become A Better Man By Doing These 16 Things

Become A Better Man By Doing These 16 Things

The whole “become a better man” thing can sometimes feel a bit preachy and obnoxious, but really, it’s about ditching bad habits, building good ones, and owning your personal growth. If you want to kick things up a notch and become the kind of guy you’re proud of, here’s a starting point.

1. Get a real alarm clock.

Turning off an alarm clock

We all love scrolling our phones in bed, but it messes with your sleep, wastes time, and makes getting up even harder. A real alarm clock forces you to get out of bed, start your day on purpose, and reclaim those precious morning minutes. It’s such a small thing but the mental shift it can give you is major.

2. Read more books.

Reading’s not just for nerds and English majors. It makes you smarter, more interesting, and gives you something to talk about besides sports or the latest meme. Pick stuff you actually like — adventure novels, sci-fi, biographies… whatever keeps you hooked. If you don’t know what you like, pick up something that looks interesting and try it out.

3. Drink more water.

Soda, energy drinks, even juice – it’s all just liquid sugar messing with your body. Water makes you feel better, think clearer, and might even help your skin look less like a pizza. Plus, think of the money you’ll save when you’re not buying overpriced junk drinks. That’s not to say you can’t enjoy an IPA after a long week at work or whatever, just that you should be fuelling your body with more of the good stuff.

4. Start a strength training program.

Lifting weights isn’t just about getting shredded (though that’s a nice bonus). It makes you stronger in every way – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Even if you start with embarrassingly light weights, consistency is key. The feeling of getting a little stronger each week is seriously addictive.

5. Invest in some quality pieces of clothing.

Your wardrobe doesn’t need to be fancy, but a few well-chosen pieces that fit you properly make a huge difference. Ditch the baggy jeans and faded tees when you’re not hanging out on your couch and level up your casual style. Looking good translates to feeling good, and that confident energy shows.

6. Get on top of your finances.

Money stuff can be stressful, but ignoring it makes it worse. Learn to budget, get out of debt (if you have it), and start saving – even small amounts add up over time. Financial independence means more freedom, less worrying, and the ability to actually do cool stuff with your life.

7. Take a cold shower every day.

Okay, this one sucks, especially at first, but that icy blast wakes you up like nothing else, builds serious mental toughness, and might even have some health benefits. Treat it like a challenge – once you can handle a cold shower, other tough stuff feels way easier.

8. Volunteer your time.

Giving back to your community is a win-win. It puts your own problems in perspective, helps people in need, and makes you a part of something bigger than yourself. Plus, girls dig a guy who cares about more than just his own needs.

9. Own your mistakes.

Nobody’s perfect — we all screw up sometimes. Trying to hide it or blame other people for things you got wrong just makes you look weak. Own your mistakes, apologize honestly, and do your best to make things right. That’s the kind of integrity people actually respect.

10. Meditate for a few minutes every day.

Meditation might sound woo-woo, but it’s actually about focus and calming your mind. It reduces stress, helps you think more clearly, and gives you more control over those knee-jerk anger reactions. Don’t expect instant zen, but with practice, it makes a real difference.

11. Learn how your favorite things work.

Ever feel helpless when your car breaks down or the WiFi goes out? Knowing basic mechanics, tech troubleshooting, or even how to cook a decent meal makes you way more self-reliant. It’s a confidence booster, plus fixing things yourself saves you a ton of cash.

12. Become the man your dog thinks you are.

If you’re lucky enough to have a furry best friend, they already love you unconditionally. Make them proud by striving to be the kind, responsible, and fun-loving human they believe you are. Be the person your dog would be if they could.

13. Learn some basic self-defense.

The world isn’t always safe, and hoping for the best isn’t a great strategy. Knowing some self-defense moves builds confidence and makes you less of an easy target. It empowers you to protect yourself and those you care about.

14. Be a man of your word.

If you say you’re gonna do something, do it. It sounds simple, but way too many guys are all talk and no follow-through. Being someone people can actually count on is a rare and valuable thing – in your friendships, relationships, and career.

15. Master your emotions.

Anger, sadness, jealousy – strong emotions are part of being human. But letting them run the show leads to bad decisions and hurt feelings. Learn how to manage your emotions without stuffing them down. That kind of self-control is powerful.

16. Take care of your mental health.

They say tough guys don’t cry, but that’s BS. Asking for help when you’re struggling is one of the bravest things you can do. Therapy isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s like taking your brain to the gym. It helps you work through stuff, become more resilient, and live your best life.
