Couple Adopts Tiny Kitten Not Realizing He’d Grow Into The World’s Longest Cat

Adopting a pet is a huge decision, but it’s also one of the most rewarding you ever make in your life. However, there can be some surprises that come along the way, and that was certainly the case for Australian woman Stephy Hirst. She and her partner adopted a tiny kitten called Omar, but they had no idea at the time that he’d grow into the world’s longest cat when he got older!

Omar had no intention of staying small.

While Stephy was aware that Omar was a Maine Coon cat, meaning he’d definitely be larger than your average cat, Omar is certainly a rarity even among his species!

Now that he’s an adult, he weighs more than 30 pounds and very clearly towers over the couple’s other cat (though Omar’s kitty sibling doesn’t seem to mind).

He’s a Guinness World Record holder.

Omar isn’t just big — he’s legendary! When fully stretched, he’s a whopping 3.93 feet long, making him the world’s longest cat. This has even been verified by the Guinness Book of World Records officials, so it’s the real deal!

However, Stephy didn’t realize just how remarkable Omar was until she started posting photos of him on Instagram. Soon enough, the Cats of Instagram page shared his photos, and the Guinness World Records team reached out to Stephy to meet up.

It soon became clear that he had the previous record-holder, UK-based Maine Coon cat Ludo, beat. Ludo was only 3.88 feet, so Omar is very clearly longer!

Omar may not be done growing yet.

While he’s already clinched the title of world’s longest cat, he seems intent on holding onto the crown for a long time to come. Stephy says Omar is still growing and may yet get even longer. Pretty impressive, to say the least!
