Diners Say They’re ‘Over Tipping’ After Waitress Shares Her Earnings From 3-Hour Shift

Customers are claiming that they’re done with tipping after a waitress on TikTok revealed how much she made in tips during a 3-hour shift at Texas Roadhouse. Amanda, who posts as @amanda4xx, said that it was a “slow day” so she did a shorter shift. However, she still walked away with a pretty good amount of cash, and people aren’t happy about it.

Amanda’s tips meant she basically made $59/hour.

During her three-hour shift, Amanda waited on nine different tables. A few of them paid in cash, so she collected her tips immediately. However, others paid via card, so the restaurant itself had to pay out her portion.

In total, she made $150.14 in tips on top of her $9/hour wage. That means she made $177.14 for her three-hour shift, or about $59 per hour.

Not bad, that’s for sure!

Many people’s opinions were anything but positive.

Anyone who’s ever worked in any sort of customer service job knows just how awful it can be. Customers are demanding, rude, and sometimes downright insulting. Plus, the work itself is very physical as you’re on your feet the whole time, running back and forth taking orders, delivering them, checking in on customers, etc.

However, people have become way too comfortable with service industry workers being “beneath” a decent wage, so the idea that Amanda came out with a really good amount of money was offensive to commenters, many of whom insisted that they either needed to lower the amount they tip or simply stop doing it at all. They really do hate tipping culture!

Commenters were pretty salty that a waitress might actually get paid well.

While there was no indication that this was Amanda’s normal takings, nor does that reflect on the thousands of other waitresses around the country who a) don’t make as many tips and b) don’t get a a $9 base wage, people were still enraged.

“I need to lower my tips. Thanks for sharing,” one hater wrote.

“For now on instead of tipping the waiter I’ll just buy a round of drinks for the cooks,” another said.

A third added, “Been seeing a lot of these videos lately and it helped realize I need to lower how much I tip, thank you.”

Thankfully, there were some people who supported Amanda’s earnings.

They understand that waitressing is a hard job and applauded Amanda for her hustle.

“Always tip 20 percent she obviously is a good server. Get that cash,” one commenter said. A second added, “Great job! It’s not easy putting up with people every day.”

Another sensible person pointed out that things aren’t all as they seem. “$59 an hours sounds good until you realize you have to pay taxes on that plus you don’t get health etc so $20hr at most,” they explained.
