Ever met someone so mean or manipulative that it made you wonder if they were truly a bad, evil person? Sadly, some people really do seem to enjoy causing pain. It’s important to protect yourself from people like that. Here are 20 things to watch out for, and how to handle it so you don’t get hurt or waste your energy on them.
1. They’re racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.
Someone who’s prejudiced against other people — think people who express racist or sexist remarks — and don’t have any shame about it are really nasty people. They think they’re superior to everyone else, and that’s someone you don’t want in your life. Seriously, they probably hate themselves and are projecting. Leave them to do that on their own. Next!
2. They’re an online troll.
Online trolls can be crazy. If you see that your friend or partner is trolling people online and sending them threatening messages, it’s a scary feeling. How can someone wish another person dead or threaten their lives? Evil people might even laugh about their online behavior. Confront them about what they’ve done and ask them why they feel the need to do this.
3. They treat you like garbage (and seem to love it).
They seem to enjoy making you feel as small and undervalued as possible, and it’s disgusting. They don’t care how much damage they’re doing in your life — in fact, the more, the better.
4. Their Friends Or Family Warn You.
When you start dating someone, does their friend or sister tell you in confidence that you’re too good for them or that you should be careful around them? This is totally whack and you should pay attention to what they’re saying. Ask them questions! They need to give you details about what they know about this person, such as if they have a history of violence, so you can get out.
5. They Don’t Hesitate Before Lying.
When you catch the person in a lie, how do they react? An honest person who messed up by lying to you might fumble for their words or not know what to say. An evil person who’s a compulsive liar will tell you a lie without any hesitation at all. It’s like the lies are ready on the tip of their tongue because they’re so used to saying them.
6. They Cross Your Boundaries.
Evil people don’t care about other people (more on that later on!), so they’ll steamroll over your boundaries like it’s nothing. When you say “no” to the request for them to enter your apartment, they’ll sulk or laugh at you and continue to press you to say “yes.” It’s so disrespectful!
7. They Make Creepy Eye Contact.
Although eye contact is a good thing – it shows you that the other person’s invested in the conversation and giving you their full attention – if it’s too intense or the person’s eyes are empty, those are red flags that you’re dealing with someone who has evil tendencies. Maybe they’re even psychopaths, as intense eye contact can be a way for them to gain control.
8. They Laugh At Your Pain.
When you stub your toe and see stars, or you burst into tears when you fall down the stairs, the evil person ridicules you or laughs at your pain. They’ll actually laugh as though seeing you in pain gives them a burst of delight. So much for getting any comfort from them.
9. They’ve Got Zero Empathy.
Evil people don’t have any empathy for other people. They can’t understand people’s emotions and they honestly don’t care about them. Other signs of a lack of empathy include criticizing others and not listening to anyone. They’re only interested in the sound of their own voice.
10. They Never Help Anyone.
Since evil people only care about themselves, they’re unlikely to reach out to someone in need. So, if they drive past someone who needs help changing a tire, they’ll keep driving. Or, if they see a starving dog in the road, they’ll ignore it or complain that they’re too busy to help.
11. They’re Cruel To Animals.
Evil people who are prone to being aggressive or having an aggressive attitude might treat animals badly. They might have a history of being cruel to animals during childhood, which is scary because some kids who do this go on to hurt people later on in life, or they’ll treat animals in their environment badly, such as by kicking their dogs or not feeding their cats. It’s so disgusting. Call the SPCA on this person.
12. They Ignore You When You’re In A Bind.
An evil person might see that you’ve been crying or have had a stressful as hell day and they’ll act like nothing’s happened. It’s confusing at first, but it basically shows you that they don’t care about you or anyone else. They might even try to joke and lighten the mood even though it’s so inappropriate.
13. They Love-Bomb You.
Okay, love-bombing isn’t necessarily what evil people do. They might just be really keen on you and don’t see all the OTT gestures as being manipulative. But, the thing is that evil people will try to appear perfect when they first meet you so that they can gain control of you. Soon after being showered with gifts and attention, you’ll be treated badly by them.
14. They Gaslight You.
Around an evil person, you’re likely to feel gaslit at some point. They’ll deny what you’ve confronted them about even though you know you’re right, they’ll call you crazy, and they’ll question your memory about events. Sound familiar? It’s all done to make you confused so you end up questioning your sanity.
15. They Monitor You.
Evil people with controlling tendencies will want to monitor you as though you’re a bug under a microscope. It’s so creepy. They might track you via an app on your phone or by stalking you. They might say they’re trying to help you or keep you safe, but it’s actually a way for them to control you.
16. They Think It’s Fun To Insult You.
An evil person has no shame in belittling you and putting you down. If you’re a parent, they’ll put down your parenting. If you’re a teacher, they’ll criticize your methods. They always have something negative to say to you, and they’re super amused by their “funny” comments.
17. They Fly Off The Handle.
Do you walk around nervously around this person? This is common around someone who’s intense and unpredictable. They might lose their temper out of nowhere or blow up at you for something minor, like if you tripped on the stairs. One minute, they’re happy and fun-loving, and the next they’ve descended into a mood from hell. Someone who can’t handle his emotions is a red flag.
18. They Control You With Waterworks.
To manipulate you, an evil person will know when to throw on the waterworks and pretend to be sensitive. Like, when you leave their apartment and they’re not going to see you for the next two days. Um, with their dramatics, you’d swear you were leaving the country. What the heck? They do this to make you feel sorry for them or to think they have a heart and love you. Nope, they don’t.
