Woman Proves How Fake Everything Is On Social Media With Photos Before And After Editing

A woman on TikTok has proven time and time again just how fake social media can be by sharing her edited and unedited photos side by side. Holly Cockerill, who works as a makeup artist, regularly posts before and after pics that illustrate just how easy it is to present a version of yourself to the world that’s completely and utterly false.

  1. There’s nothing you can’t change. We all know celebrities and influencers love editing photos, but Holly Cockerill showed just how easy it is to switch up even the smallest detail. In some pics, she completely changed her hair color. In others, she had a full face of makeup even though in the real shot, she was completely bare-faced.
  2. Holly’s honesty is refreshing. While most influencers would be horrified for people to know the truth, Holly thinks it’s important to be honest. “I’m guilty of always scrolling through Instagram and seeing ‘perfect’ selfies with the perfect life, and it made me feel so bad about myself. I’d constantly compare myself to these fake images,” she told Bored Panda. “I then started seeing accounts showing celebrities and popular influencers on social media versus real life, and I couldn’t believe the difference.”
  3. Too many young people idolize influencers for the wrong reasons. Social media stars really affect how young people see themselves. This made it even more important for Holly to share the truth. “Young people look up to influencers and want to be like them or look like them. And if those influencers are using an app that changes everything about themselves, then it’s making normal people question why they don’t look good enough,” she said.
  4. Her followers are grateful for Holly’s honesty. One commenter responded to one of Holly’s videos with praise, saying: “You actually really help me to remind myself not to compare how I look to those online. Thank you, sometimes I really need it.” Another added: “Thanks for posting this. It’s so hard not to get caught up in wanting to look exactly like those filters. You are so beautiful!”

Holly Cockerill’s original photos are beautiful just as they are because they’re real. If only more people were honest like her!
