Homeowner Catches Intruder In His House And Shoots Him Dead Fox Atlanta

A Georgia homeowner won’t face criminal charges after he shot and killed an intruder who tried breaking into his house. The DeKalb County Police Department is still investigating the incident, which happened around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 23.

  1. The homeowner, who hasn’t been named, caught the suspect red-handed. He didn’t wait to ask questions. Instead, he just opened fire, fatally injuring the intruder. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
  2. The homeowner has been upfront and direct with police. He’s said to have visited the police station on two separate occasions for interviews with officers. However, he’s not being investigated for any crimes as shooting the intruder was seen as an act of self-defense for himself and his home, Fox 5 Atlanta reports.
  3. Stand Your Ground laws are in place in Georgia. The Castle Doctrine says that if someone breaks into your house, you’re within your rights to use deadly force without reserve. They don’t have to resolve issues peacefully or ask questions — they’re free to shoot anyone who dares set foot on their property.
  4. Neighbors say that “young guys are stalking the neighborhood at night.” They believe that opportunistic criminals are scouring the streets for open doors. Melan Syndor, who lives across from the homeowner in question, heard the shots being fired. “I was in the kitchen and then there were gunshots and it was really loud,” she recalled to Fox 5 Atlanta. “I heard a few gunshots and then about five minutes later the police pulled up.”
  5. One neighbor who wished to remain anonymous was sad that this situation even happened. “I just think it’s a sad state of affairs for the country,” they told WSB-TV. “In this case, somebody having a gun was a good thing.” I suppose “good thing” would be defined differently by different people here, of course.
