It’s been a long, hard road, but it’s official: Joe Biden has officially beaten Donald Trump in the 2020 election to become the 46th President of the United States of America. It was announced on Saturday, November 7 that Biden had won the state of Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral votes, taking him over the 270 threshold he needed for victory.
- Supporters of both candidates have been on tenterhooks. The 2020 election has hinged on several states who were still in the midst of counting mail-in votes, an increase in which was seen this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, Pennsylvania completed their count on Saturday and made their final announcement, much to the happiness of Biden supporters.
- Of course, Trump isn’t taking this lying down. He’s continually alleged (without evidence, of course) that the election has been rigged. He’s even gone so far as to file legal motions in states that Biden won claiming voter fraud. All of those motions have been dismissed given that again, there’s zero proof of this.
- We finally have a female VP in the White House! Perhaps even more exciting than Biden’s win is the fact that Kamala Harris, a proud South American and African American woman, is going to be the new Vice President. Given her solid history in politics and her intelligence, this can only be a good thing.
- Hopefully, Biden’s victory is a sign of good things to come. It’s obvious that 2020 has been a terrible year in so many ways. Hopefully, Biden’s win will turn the tides that we so desperately need towards optimism, unity, and hope. Fingers crossed!
