Figure Skater Recreates Iconic Wednesday Dance At National Championships

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva won the hearts of goths and Netflix fans everywhere when she recreated Jenna Ortega’s viral “Wednesday” dance during the 2023 Russian Figure Skating Championships last week. Valieva went all out for the performance, wearing an all-black outfit, donning pigtails, and giving a nod to Thing. She even performed to The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck,” which was pretty awesome.

  1. The Wednesday dance has been a big topic of conversation. Ever since “Wednesday” premiered on Netflix, people couldn’t get enough of the bizarre yet mesmerizing dance Wednesday performs at the school formal. It was later revealed that Jenna Ortega, the actress behind the titular character, choreographed the sequence herself. She admitted that she’d gone without sleep for two days before filming, which may explain some of the zanier moves in the dance. People absolutely love it either way!
  2. Kamila Valieva was brave to recreate the “Wednesday” dance. Because it’s such a big moment in pop culture right now and is still fresh on everyone’s minds, it could have gone either way. However, everyone loved it and she really brought the spirit of the dance to life. Her choice of music was great too, with the Cramps track switching over to “Bloody Mary” by Lady Gaga at the end. Incredible!
  3. People who’ve seen the performance can’t get enough. Video of Valieva’s skate was uploaded to YouTube, where viewers applauded her for being “on fire” while others described it as “awesome” and “refreshing.” It’s definitely different than the standard skate routines we tend to see on the ice!
  4. It got the skater pretty far ahead of the competition! The Wednesday dance earned Kamila Valieva, 16, the silver medal in the women’s senior championship division. That’s pretty impressive. Good for her! Wednesday would be proud (though she probably wouldn’t show it).
