Mia Khalifa: ‘I Was Used Like A Toy In The Adult Film World’

Mia Khalifa has been open and honest about her negative experience in porn, saying the few films she made “will haunt her forever.” And while she’s left that phase of her life behind her, she often reflects on the circumstances in her life which led her there and what she went through while she was part of the adult film industry. During a recent interview on Stephen Barlett’s “Diary of a CEO” podcast, Mia Khalifa said she was “used like a toy” during that time in her life.

Khalifa, who now uses her birth name, Sarah Joe Chamoun, said that her ex-husband was a former US soldier who basically forced her into porn when she was only 20. It was a toxic relationship that “a lot of girls get into when they’re in their teens,” she said, adding that she was simply a “toy to play with” at the time.

She and her ex-husband eloped just after her 18th birthday in Las Vegas, but it certainly wasn’t a fairytale. “I didn’t have a sense of self so I attached myself to someone who was more than happy to abuse that and someone who could see that and see someone easily manipulatable,” she admitted. “But at the same time [I was] eager to please. It was just the perfect storm.”

Once she was pushed into porn, her relationship got even worse. “I even feel weird calling it a relationship because the dynamic was not one of a relationship – it was more one of someone who saw a toy to play with,” she recalled.

Thankfully, she was eventually able to get out of both the toxic marriage and the adult film industry. She has since gone on to become a sports presenter. She also seemed to have found a relationship that made her happier, though her marriage to Robert Sandberg ended after about a year.
