Model And Pageant Queen Quits The Catwalk To Become A Truck Driver

A beauty pageant queen and mode has decided on a rather unconventional new career path: she’s becoming a truck driver. Milly Everatt, 22, started modeling when she was 17 and was even a finalist in the prestigious Miss England contest. However, she’s always wanted to join the trucking world ever since she started driving tractors on her family’s farm.

  1. Reading about the HGV driver shortage in the UK pushed her to go for it. The UK and Europe as a whole have been experiencing a severe driver shortage when it comes to long-haul trucking, and when Milly read about it, she decided it was finally time to apply for her HGV license.
  2. She enlisted a trainer to help her meet her goal. Driving around a multi-ton truck isn’t an easy feat, so she brought on trainer Mark Curtis to get her up to speed. Curtis said he saw “a lot of potential” in Milly and believes she’ll be on the road in no time.
  3. Milly comes from a family of models and beauty queens. Her mother and five sisters are all big in the modeling industry so it was natural for Milly to follow suit. In 2018, she was even crowned Miss Lincoln and finished sixth in the Miss England pageant soon after. However, there’s more to her than her beauty.
  4. Milly got a lot of “presumptuous” comments about her new career choice. Many people accused her of not being used to “proper work” since she’s getting involved in her dad’s business. “A lot of people presume that because it’s my dad’s business I don’t work hard,” she said, as per BBC News. “But if anything sometimes you’ve got to work a bit harder to get away from that. But I enjoy doing it, me and my sisters all work for my dad.”
  5. Many people were surprised that she wanted to join the trucking world. While Milly notes that there have been women in trucking for “a long time now,” the fact that she wanted to be part of it was “still a surprise for a lot of people.” She explained: “By no means am I claiming that I’m the first, but it’s available to anyone, man or woman, it’s not limited to a gender. It’s maybe not every little girl’s dream to be a trucker but it’s something anyone can do.”
  6. She’s not leaving modeling behind entirely. While she’ll still do some jobs as they crop up, she’s really focusing hard to get her Class 1 and Class 2 HGV license. Milly is loving her lessons and compares driving the trucks as being like a “super-sized tractor.” She added: “You don’t realize until you get in one or out of one how high up you are. It’s extra hard to get around the corners. You’ve got to make sure you’re watching things all the time.”

Good luck, Milly! You’re a badass!
