Science Says Intelligent People Are Less Likely To Cheat

A study published in the Social Psychology Quarterly journal found that people with higher levels of intelligence are way less likely to cheat. However, there was a major caveat — the findings only applied to men.

  1. Intelligent men tend to stay faithful more often. Study author Dr. Satoshi Kanazawa from the London School of Economics and Political Science reached the conclusion after compiling data from two major American surveys with thousands of respondents each. “More intelligent men are more likely to value monogamy and sexual exclusivity than less intelligent men,” Kanawaza concluded.
  2. The same, however, cannot be said for women. While many people seem to think men are the biggest cheaters, a study from the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University found that women are swiftly catching up and doing it nearly as much. Yikes! And, combined with Kanazawa’s study, it seems they may soon take over.
  3. Intelligent women aren’t necessarily cheating more. According to Kanazawa, since women have always been more monogamous in nature due to their biology, intelligence levels make no difference as to whether they’re likely to remain faithful or not.
  4. Money plays a big part in fidelity, it seems. Men who are financially dependent on female partners show a greater tendency to cheat, according to a 2008 study published in American Psychological Review. Meanwhile, women who are the main earners are more likely to stay faithful. Men in the more powerful financial position, however, are more likely to cheat. The mind boggles!
