A Texas woman was arrested after she allegedly shot a nail salon owner because she was unhappy with the price of her mani-pedi. Joana Vara, 21, visited Katy Nails near Houston, in far west Harrison County, with her sister. Both women got manicures and pedicures but an argument broke out over the price of the services when the women went to pay. Soon after, the male owner of the salon had been shot and police were called to the scene.

  1. Vara did eventually pay for the mani-pedis. After she paid, Click 2 Houston reports that she left the store while her sister continued to argue with the owner inside the store. Soon after, Vara then reentered the store and joined in on the argument again, much to the owner’s dismay. When the owner tried to push her and her sister out of the store, Vara shot him with a handgun before walking out.
  2. Both Vara and her sister fled the scene. According to authorities, the women left the scene in a burnt orange-colored Ford Fusion before authorities arrived at Katy Nails, but since Vara left her phone behind at the salon, she was pretty easy to track down.
  3. Vara has now been charged with aggravated assault. She was arrested by Harris County Sheriffs and booked into the Harris County jail. Her sister, 20-year-old Quetzali Vara, was also arrested, not for the assault but for evading arrest. Her bond is set at $2,500.
  4. The nail salon owner did survive the shooting. He was taken to a local hospital where he’s said to be in critical but stable condition.
