Kids are incredibly expensive, so it makes total sense for parents to want to cut costs however they can. Often, this comes in the form of getting hand-me-down clothes from friends and family members since they grow out of them so quickly, or maybe even finding cheaper care products that work just as well as the more popular branded ones.

One thing that many people are not down with, however, is DIYing stuff like diapers and baby wipes. Store bought is the way to go for the majority of people, but one TikTok mom claimed to have come up with a “genius hack” that would save money and be more environmentally friendly than buying baby wipes — she’d just make her own.

Prepare to be grossed out!

The video is titled “Genius Mom Hack” and literally starts with a roll of paper towels in a Pyrex mixing bowl.

She then squirts the roll in tons of baby oil, moisturizer, and diaper rash cream before stuffing the whole thing in a recycled milk bottle for safekeeping.

“This will save you so much money,” she writes across the top of the video.

This is… kind of a terrible idea.

Not only are these DIY baby wipes incredibly messy, but they also aren’t particularly sanitary.

Given that there are literally entire forum threads dedicated to moms sharing tips on how to stop the mold that grows on their DIY baby wipes, it’s clearly not something you want touching your baby’s delicate parts.

The mom in question got totally roasted in the comments section.

Instead of lauding her for her creativity, commenters were like, “Uh… girl, no.” With more than 9,000 comments and counting, it’s clear that people are not feeling this “hack” and are calling it out as BS. Not only is it not safe for a baby’s skin, it’s not even cheaper!

“That’s using more money because you have to buy all those products that you’re using on the paper towels plus buying paper towels,” one person pointed out.

Another person suggested that it would be easier and actually more economical for the woman to just get reusable wipes and use them with water.

A third person said, “This looks like a hack on how to make a huge mess for no apparent reason…”

Finally, one commenter summed it up perfectly, writing, “Girl, just buy the baby wipes.”
