Want To Spoil Your Cat? Get Them A Catio

If you are a proud cat lover and owner, chances are you want to do everything you can to spoil your furry friend. You probably have tons of toys, scratching posts, and yummy treats for them already, but have you ever considered investing in a catio?

  1. Catios are just patios for your cat. If you have a patio in your back yard, chances are you love hanging out there on warm, sunny summer days. Maybe you fire up the grill or set out a sun lounger to work on your tan. Well, catios are basically the same thing—a dedicated outdoor space for your feline friend to chillax in.
  2. There are businesses dedicated to building catios. For instance, there’s a business in Seattle called Catio Spaces that will basically build your cat an outdoor palace, the likes of which you’ve never seen before.
  3. The idea for catios came from a serious cat lover. Of course! A non-cat lover would never come up with something so awesome. Catio Spaces was founded by 22-year-old Cynthia Chomos, who told Bored Panda about the inspiration behind her idea, her adopted tabby cat Serena. “Being a nature lover, I wanted her to enjoy the stimulation of the outdoors while protected from a variety of outdoor hazards. I transformed my backyard patio into a catio and created a space we could both enjoy with a water fountain, seating, shelves, and cat safe plants. While lounging in it one day with Serena curled up on my lap, I had a flash of inspiration to start Catio Spaces and combine my feng shui expertise and love of design, nature, and cats. One thing led to another (Serena has 4 catios and is my “quality assurance” expert), and I design custom catios, DIY catio plans and help cat parents from all over the world solve their indoor/outdoor dilemma.”  Amazing!
  4. Some people might think it’s OTT but they clearly don’t get it. When you get a pet, they become part of your family. As such, you want to do whatever you can to make their lives comfortable and happy. If your cat loves lounging in the sunshine, why wouldn’t you combine a great outdoor space with something cool that your cat will love? It seems like a no-brainer.
