An Australian woman was officially charged after stealing a truck filled with 10,000 Krispy Kreme donuts and going on the run. The New South Wales police said that the 28-year-old woman, whose identity hasn’t been made public, hopped inside the truck when it stopped for gas and drove off. However, she was caught on CCTV and a search ensued, 9 News reports.
It took police a week to find the missing truck.
They followed a series of clues until they reached a suburban car park on the outskirts of Sydney. There, they found the truck that had gone missing a week earlier, on November 29.
They eventually caught up to the woman who stole it and arrested her at around 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 14. She was at St. Mary’s Railway Station, likely attempting to make a swift getaway.
Sadly, the donuts were “destroyed.”
That’s not because she offloaded them to someone else or ate them but rather that they’d been sitting in the truck for too long and were therefore deemed to be spoiled.
Krispy Kreme said it was “working to replace the 10,000 stolen donuts” so that hungry customers didn’t have to miss out on their sugar fix, BBC News reports. It’s unclear how long it took to make up for the missing merchandise.
The woman is still behind bars now.
She was charged with “take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and travel or attempt travel without valid ticket.”
After appearing in court the same day she was arrested, she was refused bail and sent back to her cell. Looks like someone didn’t have a very sweet Christmas! (I’ll show myself out.)
