Woman Who Told Police Her Firefighter Husband Died By Suicide Is Charged With His Murder RAMSEUR FIRE DEPARTMENT

A North Carolina woman who attempted to convince police that her firefighter husband died by suicide has now been arrested for his killing. Heather Auman is being held without bond on first-degree murder charges and has not yet entered a plea, PEOPLE reports.

  1. Mishael “MJ” James Auman died of a gunshot wound. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office arrived to the family’s home in Seagrove on June 25 after 911 received a call “regarding an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound.” Once they arrived, they found 37-year-old Mishael alive but unconscious. He died from his injuries shortly after arriving at a local hospital.
  2. Authorities soon realized something was wrong. Detectives began looking into the statements made by Heather Auman as well as the circumstances surrounding Mishael’s death and realized that her version of events didn’t add up.
  3. Heather Auman was arrested for her husband’s murder shortly after. “Following an investigation by detectives and consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, a warrant for arrest was issued for Heather Hicks Auman, the victim’s wife, for murder,” a police statement reads. She’s due to be arraigned on Saturday.
  4. Mishael Auman was a beloved member of the local community. Not only was he “employed full time with the City of Asheboro and a longtime firefighter in Randolph County” but he was also an active volunteer firefighter with the Seagrove Fire Department.
