TikToker Raises $180,000 To Help Elderly Walmart Employee Retire

A TikToker has raised $180,000 to help an elderly Walmart employee finally be able to retire. Devan Bonagura was horrified to discover an old woman named Nola working at his local store, and shared a 15-second video of her on his channel sitting in the break room. “Life shouldn’t be this hard. I feel bad,” he captioned the 5-second clip. It quickly went viral and was the catalyst for the GoFundMe that has now raised enough money to hopefully allow Nola to enjoy her senior years.

  1. Viewers begged Devan Bonagura to start the GoFundMe page. Realizing there was a real opportunity to help, he did just that. “Nola works at Walmart and that says enough. Let’s all come together and help,” he wrote in the description for the fundraiser in which he said would “help Nola retire.”
  2. Walmart wasn’t very happy with his actions. According to Bonagura, the store contacted him personally and told him to not only take down the fundraiser but also the initial video of Nola. However, he refused. “So, I told them: ‘Do what you gotta do, because I’m getting this money to this woman one way or another.'”
  3. Bonagura told Nola about all the money that had been raised for her. At that point, he’d raised an impressive $110,000. However, Nola didn’t believe that would be enough to allow her to quit her job. “They saw that you’re a very hard worker, obviously,” Bonagura told her. “We are all super proud of you, and we wanted to offer you the $110,000 that has been raised for you.” She responded that she would “still have to work until I get the other $70,000 or $60,000 paid off the house.” However, she admitted that it “won’t take long now with all that money.”
  4. Now, it seems like Nola should have all the money she needs to finally retire. She admitted that being able to pay off the house was all that was holding her at her Walmart job. That should be taken care of now! Hopefully, she can enjoy her retirement now.
