Reopened German Cafe Gives Customers Pool Noodle Hats To Enforce Social Distancing

As the world slowly begins to open and attempts to create a new normal, businesses are having to take additional creative steps to ensure the safety of customers and staff. One restaurant in the German town of Schwerin took things to a whole new level when they reopened recently, making customers wear hats with pool noodles on them to enforce social distancing rules.

  1. Cafe & Konditorei Rothe wins major points here. The German cafe posted a photo of customers enjoying a sunny meal outdoors while seated at least six feet apart and wearing their makeshift pool noodle helmets and frankly, it’s a beautiful sight to behold.
  2. It’s silly, but that’s what makes it fun instead of depressing. Does it suck that we have to stay so far away from each other and wear pool noodle hats to ensure we don’t get ill? Yes, obviously. But the colorful pool toys are so hilarious and the idea itself so absurd that you can’t help but laugh while doing it. We can all learn from the German example here!
  3. Hopefully they’re being cleaned between customers. While most commenters on the Facebook post appreciated the lighthearted but effective method used here, a few people expressed concerns about the hats being shared amongst customers and hoped that the cafe was taking measures to clean them between wears. Something tells me if they’ve gone as far as creating pool noodle hats, they’re probably cleaning them too.
  4. If I was going on a German vacation anytime soon, I’d head there. You can already tell that staff at Cafe & Konditorei Rothe know how to keep a smile on their faces and on the faces of their customers while protecting them during this global health crisis. I mean, come on — making helmets out of pool noodles? What will they think of next?! Frankly, this is one of the best things I’ve seen all week and I’m into it.
