If Someone Displays These 13 Traits, They’re Probably Envious Of You

Is someone in your life drinking Hatorade and making you feel like they’re always trying to outshine you by throwing shade your way? They might be envious of you and what you’ve achieved, but instead of talking about it or dealing with their issues, they treat you badly and try to put you down. Here are 12 signs someone’s envious of you big time.

1. They Don’t Congratulate You.

When you announce that you’re engaged on social media, this person in your social circle doesn’t even “like” your post. Ditto for when you tell them in person that you’re starting a business or have been promoted. They might say “well done” but it doesn’t feel genuine at all.

2. They Make You Feel Bad.

Even worse than being fake or ignoring your success, this envious person might try to make you feel bad for your success. It’s crazy. So, they might laugh at your announcement or give you an eye-roll as though it doesn’t mean anything. They might even “jokingly” trash you around other people, such as by saying, “I never thought you’d be engaged, ha ha ha.” Right.

3. They Badmouth Your Relationships

Whenever you start dating someone new or get into a relationship, they have something negative to say about it. It’s like they want you to fail in the romance department because then they’ll feel better about themselves. Ugh. (And if you ARE failing in the romance department, you need to check out our sister site, Sweetn. They have some killer tips, tricks, and advice to change your luck in love. Visit them here.)

4. They Arrive When You’re In A Bind.

If you’re going through a tough time, your envious “friend” will be the first one to swoop in and offer their help. Yeah, right. They’re not there to help you. They’re there to feel better about themselves by seeing how you’re struggling. So, a week after they help you get back on track after a foot injury, they’ll be gossiping about you to your mutual friends. Ugh.

5. They’re The Queen Of Sarcastic Remarks.

If someone’s envious of you, they might become nasty, such as in the form of sarcastic remarks. For example, they might say, “Really?” when you mention that the cute guy you met texted you, as if they can’t believe that such a thing would happen to you. SMH. It’s a way to subtly put you down.

6. They Totally Ignore You.

You might wonder why the envious person in your life sometimes ignores you, even if you’re right there in front of them. They won’t talk to you or look in your direction. WTF? They’re doing this because their envy is so strong, they can’t even pretend that they’re fine with you. It can make you feel crap, but they’re just trying to put you down.

7. They Say You’re Lucky.

To deal with the envy they feel over your success, they’ll notch it up to you being lucky. Or, perhaps they’ll say you’ve had an easy path to success because you have money or a family supporting you. Whatever it is, they want to find excuses for your success so it doesn’t hurt them as much.

8. They Steal Your Ideas.

An envious person will likely try to copy you, even though they’d totally deny doing it. So, you might find that they try to steal your ideas during a meeting or copy your new clothing style. It’s dodgy, but in a weird way, maybe take it as a compliment. They seem to hate you, but they’re actually loving you. Ha!

9. They Disappear When You’re Happy.

When things are good, like you’re throwing a party, you’ll invite your “friend” but they’ll be too busy to attend. Same goes for whenever you’re having a great time and living up your life. They’ll conveniently disappear ’cause they don’t want to be around you when you’re happy. It’s so messed up! They’re clearly not a real friend.

10. They Find Fault With Everything You Do.

Instead of celebrating you and boosting your self-esteem, this person will always criticize everything you do. So, they’ll tell you that your new haircut or hair color doesn’t suit you, even though they’re secretly wishing their hair looked that good. Or, they’ll tell you that you should wear purple, even though your red dress is smoking. It sucks.

11. They Try Compete With You.

This person will go to great lengths to try to look better than you. So, they’ll try to crush you at a friendly table tennis game, or they’ll tell everyone they’re engaged and flaunt images of their huge rock to one-up your engagement announcement. It’s so sick, but it’s all a competition to them.

12. They Lead You Astray.

Since an envious person wants you to fail, they’ll sometimes lead you astray. For example, if you’re looking for a great restaurant, they’ll give you a bad recommendation. Or, if you’re getting professional photos done for modeling gigs, they’ll advise you to pose in a certain way that actually makes you look less attractive. It’s toxic.

13. They Brag About Their Achievements.

Although they’ll put down your achievements, when an envious person strikes success, they’ll brag and boast about it. They do this to try to make you feel badly and because they want to show you that they’re the best. Ugh, it’s so childish! You might find that they keep talking about it all the time to rub it in. Time to put this mate on mute.
