Influencer Poses In Front Of Dead Father’s Open Coffin And Posts Pic On Instagram

A popular Instagram influencer is facing backlash after posting several photos on Instagram showing her posing in front of her dead father’s open coffin. Jayne Rivera, 20, took several pictures of herself in a one-sleeve blazer dress just in front of the casket, captioning one image: “Butterfly fly away, Rip Papi you were my bestfriend. A life well lived.” However, not everyone was happy with the morbid selfie backdrop.

  1. Many people just weren’t into the idea. While influencers are known for posting selfies from pretty much everywhere they go, many felt that posing in front of her own dead father’s casket was a step too far. “Is having kids really worth it?” one commenter asked. Others pointed out how insensitive and in bad taste the choice was.
  2. Rivera understands the backlash but doesn’t agree. She told NBC News that while she “understood the negative reception,” she doesn’t regret taking or posting the photos since they were taken “with the best intentions in a manner my father would have approved with had he still been alive.”
  3. She didn’t want to mourn her father she wanted to celebrate him. Rivera went on to say that incorporating her dad into her social media post in this way was the best way to pay homage to his life rather than focusing on the sadness of his loss. “Everyone handles the loss of a loved one in their own ways; some are more traditional while others might come across as taboo,” she said. “For me, I treated the celebration as if my father was right next to me, posing for the camera as he had done on many occasions prior.”
  4. At the end of the day, she’s not going to remove the photos. She insisted that there was “nothing wrong with what I posted, and I stand by that.” As such, the photos are still available to view on her public Instagram account.
