Kat Von D Covers Herself In ‘Blackout Tattoo’ Believed To Be First Of Its Kind

Kat Von D is known for her body art, but her new blackout tattoo isn’t your average ink. She recently took to Instagram to share that she’s covering up some of the tattoos on her body that she no longer likes. In June 2022, she shared a photo of her entire left leg covered in black, save for one portrait tattoo. Now, the “LA Ink” star has done the same to her upper body.

  1. This is a pretty intense tattoo. Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kat Von D revealed that she extended her blackout tattoo to the back of her neck and most of her upper back. It’s now one solid ass of black ink. “Got so much done today! Thank you so much @hoode215!” she wrote.
  2. From the way it’s been left, it looks like she’ll be continuing to cover up her back over time. However, while she’s pleased with the results and everyone knows tattoos are sexy, not everyone understands why she’s doing this.
  3. Not everyone was on board with the new ink. Many fans on social media questioned if the tattoo was a good idea or if Kat Von D had taken her love of body art too far. Of course, she did it because she liked it and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks.

  1. Kat Von D called for kindness. “Before anyone starts criticizing, I encourage you to remember that it’s ok not to like or even understand things,” Kat Von D wrote on Instagram when sharing the blackout tattoo on her leg. “Trust me, I’ve seen plenty of tattoos I personally would never get. And those differences make this world so much more interesting! So no need to comment any negativity.”
  2. She has other blacked-out body parts. She even got her arm blacked out in 2020, writing at the time, “Feels so good to finally cover up so many of the tattoos I got back when I used to drink. Those tattoos meant nothing to me but landmarks in dark times, and I’m so lucky to have the best blackout artist @hoode215 cover them up for me! Now my arm looks so nice and clean, and the portrait of my Father stands out even more.”
  3. Her ink has gotten her into some legal trouble. At the moment, she’s facing a lawsuit for infringing copyright and violating the intellectual property rights of a photographer who took the picture that one of her tattoos is based on. She doesn’t have the tattoo on her own body but used the photo of jazz musician Miles Davis in one of her own designs.
