Macaulay Culkin has come a long way since “Home Alone,” but he’s still best known as Kevin McAllister in the classic ’90s Christmas movie. And while some fans know he went on to join a band and that he’s a dad now, not everyone knows that Macaulay Culkin legally changed his name a couple of years ago.

  1. Culkin asked fans for their suggestions. Back in 2018, he took to his website, Bunny Ears, to say that he hated his middle name and asked fans to give their suggestions for what he could change it to. “My middle name is something dumb. Larry? Orange? Honestly, I can’t even remember it,” he wrote. “So I asked you all to send in some better options so I can go down to the courthouse and explain to a judge why I need to change my middle name to something cool.
  2. He got plenty of suggestions. Macaulay Culkin took this name change task extremely seriously. He shortlisted his five favorite suggestions to represent the shortlist. TheMcRibIsBack, Kieran, Shark Week, Publicity Stunt, and Macaulay Culkin were the winners.
  3. He let the votes run until Christmas Eve so that his new name could be considered a “wonderful present from everyone.” He wrote: “Sure, I might have gold-plated watercraft, and chrome-plated invisibility cloaks, but all I want for Christmas is a new middle name.”
  4. The winner was pretty hilarious. On December 25, 2018, Macaulay Culkin took to Twitter to announce the winner. “My new middle name has been chosen. You voted and the winner is clear,” he tweeted. “In 2019 my new legal name will be: Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. It has a nice ring to it (if you like my name).” And that, as they say, is history. He stayed true to his word and made the change, which is now even reflected on his Wikipedia page.
