Members of the Catholic Church are none too pleased with Sabrina Carpenter, urging the pop star to “pray for forgiveness” after filming a music video inside a church that they believe was “inappropriate.” In the video for her new single “Feather,” Carpenter dances around an altar in a black tulle dress and veil while men who died earlier in the video lie in coffins. Needless to say, religious folks are none too pleased.
Sabrina Carpenter released the video for “Feather” just before Halloween.
The concept of the video is pretty simple to understand. Carpenter (or the character she plays in the video) feels “lighter than a feather” after seeing men who did her wrong meet their end.
The video has received millions of views on YouTube from devoted fans who love both the song and the imagery, but not everyone was impressed.
The video was filmed at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn.
The parish approved the video being shot there, so clearly some Catholic Church members see it as NBD. However, Bishop Robert Brennan felt the need to issue a statement to the Catholic News Agency on November 2 condemning the “provocative” video.
According to Brennan, they gave approval for the video to be shot, but they wouldn’t have done so if they saw the script.
“The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script,” Brennan explained.
In fact, Vicar Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello got fired over the video!

Catholic Church members are also enraged over Sabrina Carpenter’s blasphemy in the “Feather” video.
“Pray that God and His Mother will forgive you,” one person wrote on the church’s website.
Another angrily typed, “So disappointed that the pastor allowed a music video to be made on a sacred alter. Shame on him, he should be relieved of his duties.”
The altar has since been sprinkled with holy water, and Brennan “repaired the harm” Carpenter did by filming there.
