‘The Office’ Reboot Gets The Green Light As Writers’ Strike Ends NBC

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has finally reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) and streaming services for a fair wage in Hollywood, so it’ll soon be time to get back to work on your favorite TV shows and movies. And one of the most anticipated projects is a tentative reboot of “The Office,” which is apparently getting the go-ahead, which is very exciting.

  1. The new contract hasn’t been signed just yet. However, it has been agreed upon and official documents are due to be drawn up this week. “We have reached a tentative agreement on a new 2023 MBA, which is to say an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting final contract language,” the WGA said in a statement. “What we have won in this contract – most particularly, everything we have gained since May 2nd – is due to the willingness of this membership to exercise its power, to demonstrate its solidarity, to walk side-by-side, to endure the pain and uncertainty of the past 146 days.”
  2. The AMPTP had no choice but to make a deal. In the nearly five months the WGA has been striking, they’ve held firm to their ideals and refused to back down in the face of bullying and underhanded tactics by the powers that be. This ultimately worked to their advantage. “It is the leverage generated by your strike, in concert with the extraordinary support of our union siblings, that finally brought the companies back to the table to make a deal,” the WGA’s statement continued. “We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional – with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.”
  3. Now, a bunch of projects that have been on hold can move forward. Matthew Belloni and Jonathan Handel of Puck News say that Hollywood is just about to see “a firehose of announcements of projects and casting that have been held back for fear of bad optics or violating guild rules.”
  4. One of those projects is the reboot of “The Office.” According to Belloni and Handel, Greg Daniels is ready to revive the beloved NBC sitcom and it’s all but guaranteed to happen. While Daniels initially insisted he would never reboot the show, he changed his mind in March 2022, saying he’d be into it if fans wanted it.
  5. Sadly, your old “Office” favs likely won’t be back. Instead, Daniels would likely want to do it “the way ‘The Mandalorian is like an extension of Star Wars.’” NBC has already given the idea the green light, so it seems like we could be getting some Scranton goodness back on our screens in the near future.
