These Are The Best Sex Positions To Help You Get Pregnant

If you’re in a long-term relationship and ready to start a family, you assume it’ll be a straightforward process. You wait until you’re ovulating, your partner ejaculates inside you, and voila: baby time! Of course, it’s not always so simple. Conceiving doesn’t happen right away for most couples, which can be a frustrating and demoralizing experience.

While there’s no single timeframe that all couples will adhere to, data published in the BMJ suggests that most couples trying to have a baby will conceive within one to two years. To break down that figure even further, roughly 30% conceive in the first six months, 75% conceive within six months, 90% conceive within a year, and 95% within two years.

That being said, some couples aren’t above trying as many tips, tricks, and hacks as they can in order to up their chances of encouraging conception. With that in mind, there are a couple of sex positions may help you get pregnant. No promises, but they’re worth a try!

The missionary style sex position is great for conception

Sure, it might seem boring, but it’s a classic for a reason. Missionary position is basically the standard of sex and couples have been doing it this way (and getting pregnant this way) for thousands of years. To up the ante and help the sperm travel up towards the cervix where it will hopefully fertilize one of your eggs, try placing a pillow under your hips so that your pelvis is tilted upwards.

You might want to stay in this position for a little while after your partner finishes inside you to further aid that all-important journey. One study found that people who lay on their back for at least 15 minutes after sperm entered the vagina had a 27% pregnancy rate after three cycles, compared to 18% for those who got up immediately after.

As far as sex positions go, missionary gets the job done without too much fuss — a definite plus if you’re going at it non-stop while trying to get pregnant. If you already tend to do it this way, you’re well on your way!

Doggy-style sex could help you get pregnant

Again, the idea here is that by allowing your partner to penetrate you from behind, especially if you’re face down in a pillow with your backside in the air, you’ll help the sperm travel up your vagina and towards the cervix. This is further aided by the fact that doggy style lets your partner go deeper into you, getting those little swimmers even further along.

Not only that, but one study found that of all sex positions, doggy style resulted in the greatest level of sperm retention. As you know, if you’re trying to get pregnant, this is really important. That being said, that research involved only a few couples and wasn’t very extensive, so it’s probably best not to take this as read.

When you’re desperate to start a family with your partner, it can be an intensely stressful, anxiety-inducing experience. However, while you should totally try out different methods to see if they help you along your journey, it’s also important to be patient. Assuming a doctor has given you and your partner the all-clear fertility-wise, things will happen in their own time. The more relaxed you are about it, the more likely it is to happen! Sex is supposed to be fun. Don’t forget to make it so just because you have a goal in mind. (And don’t forget to try out some other unconventional sex positions in the meantime!)
