You Can Catch A Cheating Partner With Just A Water Bottle, Apparently

Being cheated on is one of the worst things you can go through in a relationship. You should be able to trust your partner not to betray you. However, affairs are all too common. A 2021 survey by Health Testing Centers discovered that 46% of people admitted to having an affair at some point while coupled up. That’s not exactly encouraging. As it turns out, some guy on TikTok claims you can find out just how loyal your partner is by doing the water bottle cheating test. So, how can you do it and is it actually legit?

What is TikTok’s water bottle cheating test?

Figuring out if a partner is being unfaithful can be a complex and timely process. However, the TikTok water bottle cheating test aims to simplify it. In less than 30 seconds, you can find out if your S.O. is loyal to you by asking one quick question.

In a clip by @danhentschel that has since gone virla, he claims that grabbing a reusable water battle (he got his from a thrift store) and then asking your partner if it’s theirs will do the trick.

He suggests grabbing a water bottle that “could theoretically belong to anyone” is the way to start. Then, when you’re hanging out with your partner, act like you’ve just found the bottle and ask them if it’s theirs. You could even say something like, “Here’s your water bottle” to make it seem like you think it belongs to them.

So, how exactly does the TikTok water bottle test tell you whether or not they’re cheating? Apparently, if they go along with you and act as if the bottle is theirs, it’s possible they’re having an affair. After all, what if the bottle belonged to the person they were sleeping with and they didn’t know it?

“If they have nothing to hide … they’ll admit they don’t know whose it is because you’ve made them feel like you trust them,” Hentschel explains.

Can you really tell if someone is cheating with a water bottle?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the answer is no. There are any number of reasons your partner might go along with saying the bottle is theirs. Maybe they’re not fully paying attention. It’s possible they have tons of water bottles and legitimately can’t remember which ones they have. They might be confused but not want to let you know they’re unsure. There are a million different explanations for this.

It’s also the fact that testing your partner to see if they’re cheating instead of actually communicating with them is immature and a little bit sad. Plus, whether you’re using the TikTok water bottle cheating test or another method, this is not a healthy way to be in a relationship.

  1. It’s manipulative. Testing your partner to see if they’re cheating is incredibly manipulative. It involves deceiving your partner, setting them up to fail, and creating a situation that may cause them stress or upset. Why would you want to make someone you love feel like this?
  2. It destroys trust. Trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship. By testing your partner, you’re basically telling them that you don’t trust them. This can damage the trust that you’ve built with your partner, and might make them less likely to trust you in return.
  3. It can end up backfiring. Even if your partner passes your test, they’ll probably be upset or pissed off that you doubted them in the first place. This can lead to resentment and will likely ruin your relationship in the long run.
  4. It doesn’t actually solve the problem. If you’re feeling insecure or worried that your partner is cheating, you need to address those feelings directly. Testing your partner won’t solve the underlying issues. In fact, it might actually make them worse.
