You Can Get A Giant Pizza Sandwich In Japan And It Looks Amazing

Japan has all the best food stuff: delicious ramen, crazy Oreo flavors, perfect gummy candies, and now a giant pizza sandwich. Yup, you heard that right: two layers of pizza filled with loads of meat, cheese, and general deliciousness. Time to book a flight!

  1. It’s called “Nikku Mountain,” or “Meat Mountain.” This whopper of a pizza sandwich is being sold at the Japanese pizza chain Aoki’s, which previously brought us such joyful creations as the Bloody Zombino and cookie-filled chocolate bar topped pizzas. However, Nikku Mountain might just be their best invention ever.
  2. There are 18 types of meat on this thing. The official description of Nikku Mountain is “two thick-crust meat pizzas sandwiched on top of one another and filled with a generous serving of gooey melted cheese.” The top pizza is topped with beef steak, pork loin, Iberian bacon, Italian sausage, pork sausage, pepperoni, Bavarian sausage, mini wiener sausage, diced bacon, sliced bacon, hamburger patty pieces, and bacon bits. The bottom pizza has chicken, dry-cured ham, taco meat, meat in a spicy sauce, Wagyu beef ribs, and deluxe minced meat. Whew.
  3. As you can imagine, it’s REALLY heavy. Nikku Mountain weighs in at a whopping 4.4 pounds, or just about two kilograms. If you’re thinking this is potentially a heart attack in a box, you’re not entirely wrong.
  4. It’s actually not as expensive as you’d expect. Nikku Mountain, which went on sale for a limited time at Aoki’s starting September 12, sells for 2,918 yen ($26.95) for a medium and 4,624 yen ($42.71) for a large size, plus tax. Considering how big this thing is, that seems like a pretty reasonable asking price.
  5. Getting to an Aoki’s might require you to travel a bit… There are Aoki’s locations in Japan’s Aichi, Gifu, Mie and Shizuoka prefectures, all of which are in the Tokai region. That means there are no Aoki’s stores in Tokyo, so if you’re in the capital, you might have to plan a road trip if you want to try this. I don’t know about you, but it seems like it’d be worth it to me.
