Netflix Reveals ‘Umbrella Academy’ Season 2 Trailer Ahead Of July Release

Netflix Reveals ‘Umbrella Academy’ Season 2 Trailer Ahead Of July Release Netflix

If you’ve never watched Umbrella Academy on Netflix, you’re seriously missing out. The show, based on the Dark Horse Comics series of the same name, follows “a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an impending apocalypse” and it’s really great. Now, with the release of Season 2 coming up this summer, we have our first look at the new episodes.

  1. The announcement for Season 2 is pretty great. The first look we get at Umbrella Academy Season 2 shows Ellen Page (Vanya), Robert Sheehan (Klaus) and Tom Hopper (Luther) dancing around their houses while under quarantine. It’s a clever callback to the pilot episode for sure and fans won’t miss the reference.
  2. The original cast is still on board but we’re getting some newbies too. Season 2 of Umbrella Academy will welcome Yusuf Gatewood as Raymond, who’s said to be a born leader. Ballsy Texas mom Sissy will be played by Marin Ireland while Ritu Arya will take on the role of a twisted “chameleon.” Sounds intriguing!
  3. The apocalypse is still on its way. While the comics saw the group successfully stop the oncoming apocalypse, that wasn’t the case at the end of Umbrella Academy‘s first season. While that may be a marked change from the source material, it just means Season 2 has way more potential to do some awesome things with the storytelling.
  4. Season 1 ended in the perfect way. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Steve Blackman (who’s back this season too) opened up about his approach to the first season’s storytelling. “I wanted to have an ending where they sort of came together as a family, but they didn’t achieve the greater goal of saving the world. If we get a second season, we’ll see how they’re gonna end up,” he explained. “These guys aren’t dead, but we don’t know what happens. I thought it told a lot about who this family was, which is they couldn’t quite get it together. Their wonderfully dysfunctional family couldn’t quite win the day. I thought that was very telling for the season.”
  5. It still seems so long to wait. We won’t be getting any new episodes of Umbrella Academy until July 31, which admittedly feels like a lifetime away. However, it’s likely that Netflix will drop a few further teasers to tide us over (or at least we can hope). In the meantime, you can always go back and rewatch the first season to refresh your memory and get you excited for what’s to come.
