11 Signs You’re An Old Soul Even If You Don’t Realize It

Do people usually tell you that you have an old soul? What it means is that you’re wise, empathetic, and have a layer of depth that you won’t find in everyone your age. You tend to have qualities that others usually associate with older people, such as seriousness and maturity. You can tell you’re an old soul if any of the following 11 things apply to you.

1. You Love Vintage Things.

You might be drawn to things from previous decades like fashion, music, or literature. Perhaps you enjoy watching classic films on the weekends or going shopping for antiques in your free time. Maybe you even feel like you should’ve lived in a previous era because you feel such a strong connection to the lifestyle and trends of the time. If you’ve ever felt like you were born in the wrong era, you know what we mean here.

2. You’re All About Meaningful Connections.

You don’t want to waste your time chatting about menial topics at a party. You’d rather be spending time on meaningful conversations and making deep connections with others. If there’s no depth to what you’re dealing with, you’re not interested. You’d rather have conversations from which you can learn something new than exchange pointless comments about the weather.

3. You Feel Revived By Nature.

When you need to refuel your energy or de-stress, the first thing you want to do is head out into the great outdoors. Whether it’s taking a long walk through the park or going for a hike, you feel you can breathe deeper and you love the feeling of the breeze through your hair. You feel inspired by nature, such as when looking up at the stars. It helps you think and see things in a new way.

4. You’re The Wise Friend In Your Social Group.

Are you always the friend everyone turns to for advice when they’re going through a rough patch? This is an honor because it means you’re seen as the wise one in your group. You always know what to say to help your friends feel calmer and more in control of their lives, and this is why they always have you on speed dial.

5. You’re Compassionate.

An old soul is usually known for being compassionate. You’re always thoughtful and you consider the needs of the people around you, which makes them feel seen and loved. You’re an empathetic person who can understand what your friends are going through and what they feel, which boosts your emotional intelligence and makes you comforting to be around.

6. You’re Extremely Patient.

You know how overwhelming the world can be because it’s so hectic and fast-paced. With everything moving so quickly, you’re the type of person who likes to slow things down a bit. You find peace and well-being in taking your time and being patient. It might make others confused, but they can’t deny they’re drawn to your love of delayed gratification and how you appreciate every day.

7. You Dig Deeper Into Situations.

You’re the type of person who’ll look for a deeper meaning in everything. You don’t take situations or people at face value, and instead will try to suss out hidden meanings and find reasons for why things didn’t work out the way you’d planned (or hoped). This gives your life greater meaning and it also makes you an excellent judge of character.

8. You’re An Old-School Romantic.

When finding The One, you want to have a grand story about how you got together. You want a fairytale romance — we’re talking handwritten letters and chivalry — instead of modern love that’s all about texting. It’s important for you to feel that deep, emotional love that sweeps you off your feet. This is why you’re holding out for the perfect partner and refuse to settle.

9. You Love Simple Pleasures.

The great thing about you is that you don’t need a lot to be happy. You find happiness all around you, whether in gorgeous flowers just waiting to be snapped or a delicious cup of tea that revives you. You know that the small things are more meaningful than they seem and you don’t take them for granted.

10. You’re Not Materialistic.

Although it can be fun to have nice things, they don’t define you. You’d rather focus on the deeper, more important things in life, like having strong connections to those you love and the things that give your life meaning — your passions and dreams being at the top of that list. Those are what fuel your energy and keep you motivated in life.

11. You’re Always Stepping Into Your Inner World.

You know your life and surroundings are important, but you regularly dip into your inner world where you can reflect on your feelings and thoughts. You need lots of time alone to do this, and it’s what makes you gather so much wisdom. It’s also what makes you a wise person to have around. When the world gets too much, you retreat into your sanctuary and love every second of it.
