A woman on TikTok has divided opinion by revealing that she “hard launches” her first date on social media. While many people applaud her for being confident, others wonder if she’s not acting a bit crazy by doing this.

- What’s “hard launching”? Generally speaking, this is when someone comes right out and says they’re in a relationship on social media. This usually follows a few “soft launch” posts in which you kinda hint that you’re dating someone but never really show their faces or even their full body. For instance, a soft launch post might show you at a dinner table with food in front of you and another plate across from you without ever showing who’s sitting there.
- Tagging the person you’re dating is pretty serious stuff. Hard launching someone on social media is basically making it official in the eyes of the world, and it’s not something that comes right off the bat. However, as TikToker Julia Colloca revealed in a now-viral clip, her friend doesn’t subscribe to the whole idea of going with the flow.
- Should you hard launch a first date? Julia’s friend thinks so. “I once had a friend that would literally hard launch first dates with guys,” she wrote. “Like she’d meet the guy, and the date would full on have its own insta spot of him tagged and all.” Wow. That’s definitely pretty bold!
- Guys didn’t really love this most of the time. Julia noted that many of the guys her friend did this to seemed “uncomfortable,” but her friend wasn’t deterred.
- Many people thought this sounded like a major power move. “Love this for her. Men should fight for the honor to be featured I think,” one person wrote. Another added: “An icon truly.” A third confirmed: “She’s a queen.”
- However, there were many people who think it sounded “unhinged.” The idea of hard launching someone you literally just met doesn’t just sound uncomfortable for the other person, but also kind of limiting for the person doing it too. You’re basically showing off your serial dating and coming off as a bit desperate, some people think.
