Woman With PCOS Who Stopped Shaving Says She’s Proud Of Her Beard And Lets People Stroke It

A British woman who has PCOS decided to stop shaving and let her body hair grow out, no matter what anyone has to say about it. Bethany Burgoyne, 30, has a hormone imbalance that causes her body hair to grow thick and fast. This means she’s ended up growing a pretty impressive beard, and frankly, I’m impressed!

  1. Many people tell Bethany that she looks like a man. However, she’s not letting that get her down. The artist, journalist, and creative entrepreneur from Essex in England felt shame about that for a long time, but not anymore! Since 2018, she’s decided to embrace her natural body hair and she’s never been happier.
  2. She started questioning her beauty ideals in her late 20s. While she always worked to maintain society’s beauty ideals by constantly removing her excess body hair, she eventually wondered why exactly she felt the need to do that. After a while, she suddenly realized that what she was doing was ridiculous and decided to stop.
  3. Bethany doesn’t shave any of her body hair these days. Not only has she stopped shaving her chin hair, but she’s let her leg and armpit hair flow free as well. She shares photos of herself on her Instagram account, where she really embodies self-love and encourages others to do the same.
  4. She now runs her own body- and sex-positive workshop called The Sassy Show. As part of this initiative, she runs stretching classes and sensual circles with attendees, who are encouraged to open up about their insecurities and share an intimate experience with like-minded people. “Each interaction makes me feel braver, more eloquent and certain in my confidence that what I am doing is the right thing for me,” she said.
