Woman Sets Fire To Car She Thought Belonged To Her Ex-Boyfriend — It Didn’t Clearwater Police

A Florida woman was caught on camera setting fire to a car she erroneously believed belonged to her ex-boyfriend. Carmen Chamblee, 19, thought she was getting revenge on her former partner only to realize too late that she got it wrong. She was later arrested and charged with second-degree arson, the Charlotte Observer reports.

  1. Surveillance cameras caught her feeding the flames. The incident took place at roughly 7 a.m. on the 1100 block of Blanche B. Littlejohn Trail in Clearwater. In the video, Chamblee can be seen starting the fire inside the car’s trunk. Not long after, she leaves the scene on a bicycle with a backpack on her back.
  2. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office released images of her a few days later. While police were easily able to identify Chamblee and arrested her in the hours after the incident, it was a few days before the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office released her image to the public and revealed the extent of her crime.
  3. Her excuse was a weak one. When speaking to police, she admitted that she set the vehicle on fire but insisted that her attack was targeted and that she believed the car belonged to an ex-boyfriend. The fact that being mad at your ex isn’t a reasonable excuse for burning someone’s car to ashes didn’t seem to occur to her.
  4. Here’s hoping her ex kept his actual car hidden. And here’s hoping the victim’s insurance fully reimburses them so that they can get another car.
