Cops Called To Break Up “Party” That’s Actually Just An Online Drinking Session

Much of the world is currently in self-isolation, and while practicing social distancing is a challenge for many, it’s a necessary measure in order to “flatten the curve.” Thankfully, there are ways to hang out with our friends from the comfort and safety of our homes. However, turns out even virtual parties are subject to policing as three Scottish friends recently discovered.

  1. Gemma Cullen set up a party via video chat for her friends and family. The carer from Govan in Scotland thought it would be nice to have an online video chat party to make her daughter feel better since she recently turned 13 but was unable to properly celebrate her birthday.
  2. It wasn’t long before the police showed up. Halfway into the epic five-hour hangout, a police officer showed up at her friend Melissa’s house. Turns out all the music playing, dancing, and laughing raised the suspicions of Melissa’s neighbor, who believed she was violating the quarantine order and throwing an actual party!
  3. I guess things got a little rowdy! As Gemma told The Sun, “There were six of us on the video party, all having a wee bit of wine, dancing and playing music. My friend Melissa in Paisley was all dolled up and dancing with her cat round the kitchen to Usher. She went away from the camera after a bit and when she came back on, I could see her talking to someone. I thought she’d sneaked in her boyfriend but suddenly a policeman popped onscreen and said: ‘Hi Gemma, how are you?'”
  4. Everyone on the video chat thought Melissa had ordered a stripper! Never mind that strippers shouldn’t be doing home visits right now — what other explanation could there be for a cop turning up to the party? When Gemma remarked that Melissa must have ordered a stripogram, the officer laughed but let them know he wouldn’t be disrobing that night.
  5. The police officer let them go without so much as a warning. Once the cop realized that the party was strictly digital, he stayed to chat for about 10 minutes and let them know there was no issue with what they were doing. “He was so nice about it and said we’d made his night,” Gemma recalled. “They must be so busy at the moment and to get called out to a girl dancing in the kitchen with her cat – they could have been annoyed but they weren’t. I think they’re doing an amazing job.”
