All dogs are good boys and girls, but some are even…gooder? Take, for instance, Jakey. She’s a dedicated family dog who wants to make sure they and their belongings are safe while they’re not at home. That’s why she hunts out their bread and guards it until they get back without even taking so much as a bite!
- Jakey has been guarding the bread for a while. As her mom, Katrina Frank, told The Dodo, this is something Jakey has been doing a while, ever since the family moved house. “She started this four years ago when we moved to our farm. Every time we would leave she would hide the bread,” Katrina explained.
- It doesn’t matter where the bread is being kept, Jakey will find it. As soon as her family leaves the house, she’s on the hunt. Once she finds it, she won’t let it out of her sight until they’ve returned. “We have a bread box so she likes to hop up and pull it out of there,” Katrina said. “If I leave it in the pantry instead, she nudges the door open and gets it out. I’ve put it in the refrigerator before and she has opened the door to get to it.” She added: “She likes to put it behind the couch and lay by it. Otherwise, [she puts it in] the closet in my bedroom. I assume she thinks it’s the most important thing to us because we use it so often.”
- So what if there’s no bread in the house? Oh, don’t you worry! Jakey then moves on to any baked goods or flour-containing products in the house. “If I’m out of bread, she moves on to baked goods. Once she took a Tupperware of cookies off the counter and hid all 17 individually without breaking any. She led me to all of them,” Katrina revealed.
- Thankfully, her family knows “that’s just Jakey being Jakey.” Besides, it’s not as if she’s eating all of the bread – she’s just keeping it safe until everyone’s home to enjoy it. That’s very thoughtful of her!
