Kevin Bacon Destroyed A Haunted House On His Farm Because The Old Owner Worried He’d Get “Possessed”

Kevin Bacon has admitted that he had to destroy a so-called haunted house on his farm because the previous owner was terrified that he would get “possessed.” Appearing on Rob Lowe’s “Literally” podcast, the “Footloose” actor said that while he didn’t necessarily believe in the supernatural, he wanted to respect the original owner’s wishes.

  1. The star tried to fight back on it. After Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick expressed interest on the property, the old owner started harping on at them about the so-called haunted house on the property. At first, Bacon didn’t want to do anything to it. “One of the pieces that we bought had an old house in it and [the owner] didn’t want me to own the house. It was an abandoned house that he had grown up in,” Bacon explained.
  2. The man wouldn’t sell Bacon the farm unless he agreed to get rid of the “haunted” house. “We kind of went back and forth on it for a while and then, eventually, I said, ‘Listen, you can’t sell me a piece of land but not sell me the house that’s on it. Like, that’s just weird. What if you sell it and there’s somebody that’s just living, basically, right up in the backyard?'” Bacon recalled. In the end, the man said he wouldn’t sell unless Bacon got rid of the house. “He said, ‘I can’t sell it to you because it’s haunted and I’m afraid that you’ll get possessed and, you know, do some serious damage.'”
  3. Kevin Bacon had to destroy the haunted house within a month of buying it. And since he’s a man who’s true to his word, he did exactly that. Lowe asked if he managed to spend a night in the haunted house, but sadly, it never happened. However, Bacon did want to keep some of the wood fixtures in the house but was vetoed by Sedgwick. “Not only did I not do that,” Bacon shared, “But I went up there and there were some beautiful old pine boards and a banister and I said to Kyra, ‘We’ve gotta take those out.’ And she’s like, ‘No you’re not. You’re not putting those f—ing things in our house.'”
  4. So why was Kevin Bacon’s house haunted anyway? While the exact story is unclear, the actor did have a roundabout idea of what happened. “It was a long story that had to do with a Native American who, in the 1700s, had been murdered by a colonial soldier,” Bacon explained. “[The owner] had had ghostbusters there. It was a whole long thing.”
