Skin-Tone Condoms Aims To Make Sex Way More Inclusive

We all know using condoms during sex is the best way to prevent STDs and STIs as well as potentially prevent pregnancy. However, despite knowing how important protection is when getting intimate, it hasn’t always been an inclusive experience. Traditionally, condoms are made with cream-colored latex that really stands out against darker skin tones. Sexual wellness brand Roam wants to change all that with its new skin-tone condoms. Frankly, it’s amazing no one has come up with this sooner!

Roam’s skin-tone condoms currently come in four different shades: original latex, light brown, medium brown, and dark brown. They’re also available in several different sizes including slim, regular, and large. These shades cover a vast majority of skin tones that had previously been ignored in the sexual health industry. In fact, according to the brand, it’s the first product of its kind, which is pretty amazing (and long overdue, if we do say so ourselves).

The condoms are also vegan, pH balanced, and “free from unnecessary chemicals” that are often contained in latex condoms. Roam has also ensured the product is biodegradable and made from premium fair rubber. Plus, they use 50% less plastic than other condom brands, which is way better for the planet.

If you want to try them yourself, they’re available for $19 for a pack of 12, $25 for a pack of 18, and $44 for a pack of 36. While they initially launched on the Roam website, they’re now available at drugstores across the UK and other online retailers, too. While they currently only deliver to the UK mainland and Northern Ireland, they no doubt plan to expand to other countries around the world as soon as possible.

“Roam has been built to end the stigma and shame in shopping for sex for everyone,” a brand rep told the Daily Mail. “Legacy brands have failed to address nuanced needs of all sexually active communities. The launch of our Skin-Tone Condoms presents a choice that has never existed before, one that celebrates individuality.”

If that wasn’t enough to convince you Roam is a brand worth trying, they’ll also be donating one condom for every one purchased to Brook, a sexual health and well-being charity working to make contraception and protection more accessible to everyone. Now that’s a product we can all get behind.
