A teaching assistant who had sex with a school boy and told him “age is just a number” has been spared jail time, the Mirror reports. Rebecca Williams, 21, reportedly slept with the 15-year-old boy on two separate occasions but was only given a 12-month suspended sentence, a £576 ($750) fine, and an order to register as a sex offender at sentencing.

I’m sorry but if this was a male teaching assistant then it would of been a prison sentence. It’s a disgusting decision by the judge https://t.co/Gy9NJxE2OM

- Williams was caught red-handed. After an investigation, authorities discovered text messages between Williams and the victim that had become increasingly flirty, according to prosecutors at Mold Crown Court. Prosecutor Richard Edwards said that Williams once picked the boy up in her car and drove him to her house where they had sex and the boy stayed overnight. The same happened again after Williams texted the boy asking him to meet up.
- Williams wanted to have a relationship with the boy. The court heard that Williams believed she and the victim could have a romantic relationship but that he had since blocked her on all messaging apps and social media.
- She admitted two offenses of sexual activity with a boy and abusing a position of trust. Edwards told the court that an investigation was launched after “rumors started circulating that the defendant had slept with a schoolboy.” He added that upon initial questioning by school authorities, Williams “denied anything untoward had gone on.” However, the boy later confirmed that they had slept together.
- Williams has distanced herself from teaching since the incident. She is now working in construction, which takes her all over the country, and is said to be receiving mental health counseling. She was described as having a “low risk of reoffending” and is said to be in a “new relationship which has helped her.”
