You’ve (likely) been there. You had a bit too much to drink, got a bit handsy with a cute stranger at the bar, and the next thing you know, you’re waking up in their bed (or them in yours). There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a consensual fling, but the aftermath can be a bit… mortifying. That’s even more true if you think you might legitimately be into them for more than a quick hookup but have no idea if they feel the same. If you’re unsure, here are some signs your one-night stand actually likes you.
1. They don’t rush off/rush you off as soon as they wake up.
After a one-night stand, it’s likely that you won’t want to really prolong the affair. Instead, you’ll either be quick to grab your clothes and do the walk of shame or to usher the person out if you ended up at your place. However, if there’s no indication that they want to get away from you as soon as possible, that indicates that they’re pretty happy with how the night before panned out and that they think you’re pretty okay.
2. They want to have a little cuddle.
This is one of the most obvious signs your one-night stand likes you. Generally speaking, you avoid physical affection with someone that you don’t, you know, actually care about. While many people might feel a bit callous or kinda gross by not extending some kind of warmth towards the person they slept with the night before, full-blown cuddling indicates that there may be something a bit deeper there. (That, or they’re hoping for a Part 2 before saying goodbye.)

4. It’s not super awkward.
Things were super hot between you when you had a few too many beers/glasses of wine/cocktails last night, but now that your clothes are back on and the deed has well and truly been done, it can be a bit strained. You don’t really know each other at all, so you don’t have much to talk about together. It’s also clear in most cases that this was a one-off and you’ll probably never see or speak to each other again. However, if you feel as comfortable in the morning as you clearly did the night before, your one-night stand probably likes you a little (and vice versa).
5. They offer to make you coffee/breakfast.
This goes hand in hand with the first item on the list. Not only are they not rushing you out of their apartment before their roommate gets up and basically handing you your stuff on the way out the door, they actually want you to stay for a bit and have something to eat or drink. This is good manners, obviously — this is the least they could do after the performance you gave them last night — but it also indicates that they’ve been enjoying your company and are happy to have it for a bit longer.
6. They ask about you/your life.
Rule number one of casual flings is that you don’t inquire about the other person’s life. What they do, think, feel, etc. outside of the bedroom is of little interest because your lives will never intersect in that way. Of course, after a one-night stand, it seems kinda obvious that the other person likes you if they want to suddenly dive deeper. They didn’t just want to know what you look like without clothes, they also care about who you are, and that’s pretty promising.
7. They call you the next day.
In most situations, we’ve already established, ne’er the twain shall meet between you ever again after hooking up. This means that when the other person ensures that it does meet, i.e. by calling or texting you the next day, they like you and potentially want it to become more than a one-night stand. While it doesn’t necessarily imply that they’re looking for a long-term relationship, it does mean that they had a good time and would at least be up for a reprise.
8. They want to go on a proper date.
Can a one-night stand turn into a relationship? Admittedly, not often, but it does happen. Maybe you’re just doing things in reverse — heading to the bedroom before the dinner and drinks. Unconventional but modern. If they ask you to go out, either during the daylight hours for coffee or even for a proper sit-down meal in which neither of you are under the influence of way too much alcohol, they obviously like you enough to want to see you sober.
9. They add you on social media.
Sure, social media is so ubiquitous these days that it’s almost meaningless, but in fact, it’s so central in people’s lives that they value it higher than most other methods of communication/forms of connection. If your one-night stand wants to follow you on Instagram or TikTok, they obviously plan on keeping in touch and seeing what you’re up to moving forward, and that’s pretty promising.
