For some people, being alone can be an uplifting, refreshing experience. For others, being alone can be stressful. Which category do you fall into? If you’re afraid to be on your own, you’re missing out on some awesome things that can help you to learn about yourself and grow. Here are 11 reasons why it’s important to be alone. So, go ahead and cancel this weekend’s plans!

1. You Can Go On A Date With Your Feelings.

You can’t process your feelings if you don’t take the time to do so, like if you’re always rushing around in your day. So, embrace the time alone to really dig deeply into what you’re feeling RN. It might feel weird at first, but it’s good to feel a bit uncomfortable because it’s an adventure to suss yourself out.

2. You Can Make Better Decisions.

Taking a bit of time to yourself can help you to figure out the best decisions for your future. You’ll be able to break down what you really want and where you want to go, and if you really should go on another date with the guy you met last week or ditch him. You can’t do this properly if you’re always around other people, because your voice could be drowned out by theirs.

3. You Can Do Whatever The Heck You Want.

One of the most liberating things about being alone sometimes is that you can do whatever you want. Seriously! If you’re afraid to be alone, like if your partner’s gone on a weekend away with your friends and you’ve got no plans, don’t be — embrace it. Whether you want a weekend of pampering with your dog or hiking, it’s time to relish in it.

4. You Can Unwind Properly.

Although you might be someone who can relax around other people ’cause you’re comfortable in your skin, you can’t beat the relaxation that comes with spending some time alone. You can sleep all day if you want, or lounge around with a good book, without feeling guilty or that you have to be doing something productive.

5. You Can Boost Your Creativity.

When there’s peace and quiet around you, like if your roomies are away, you can make the most of your creativity. When you clear your mind, breathe, and relax, you give yourself a chance to buzz with more creativity as it will spin out tons of new ideas, much more easily than when you’re stressed. It’s an awesome feeling.

6. You Can De-Stress.

Stress can be insidious. You might not even realize that you’re going through it because you’re not taking time to suss out your feelings. So, being on your own for a bit is a great way to identify your stress triggers and do some healthy things to send stress packing, like mindfulness and fun types of yoga.

7. You Can Reclaim Your Spark.

If you’ve lost the enthusiasm you usually feel for your hobbies and chasing your dreams, you could be stressed or just bored with the rut in which you find yourself. Schedule some much-needed time alone so you can explore hobbies and passions you love, without anyone getting in the way or allowing distractions to keep you from them.

8. You Can Increase Your Independence.

When dating someone long-term, it’s easy to get into the habit of depending on them for everything. So, when you’re alone, you might feel a tad lost. That’s a good sign you need more time to yourself to boost your independence! Rely on yourself a bit more so you see what you can achieve without having to depend on what others think or expect from you.

9. You Prevent Emotions Flooding Into Your Life.

If you find yourself feeling a bit irritable or moody, it’s a sign you need to be on your own and process your feelings while recharging your batteries. This doesn’t just benefit you, but it also helps you to prevent spreading negative feelings into your relationships and friendships. So, if you’re moody, you can sort yourself out before being around your loved ones. As a bonus, being alone can make you more empathetic to others.

10. You Can Take The Pressure Off.

One of the best things about being alone is that you can take the pressure off always trying to be happy around others or making them feel happy. It’s easy to neglect yourself, so time alone helps you to bring yourself back to yourself. Plus, not having to wear a social mask feels as good as taking off your bra at the end of a busy day!

11. You Don’t Have To Take Other People’s Drama.

Another benefit of being alone on the regular is that you can focus on your own drama and think about solutions to any problems you’re facing, without having to deal with anyone else’s drama instead. This can help you to grow and make your life happier, without always focusing on what other people are going through. The time you have alone is all about you and no one else. That’s so awesome!
