Things Introverts Fantasize About Doing (But Never Will)

Things Introverts Fantasize About Doing (But Never Will)

While introverts love who they are and how they live, they do enjoy a good daydream every now and then. They can spend hours fantasizing about things, including what it would be like to be an extrovert for a day. If they were, they’d be doing these things — but since they’re not, they’ll just stay in their little introverted cocoon.

1. Planning a surprise party… for themselves

Surprise parties are a major introvert nightmare. Sure, they might briefly imagine a cool moment where everyone celebrates them, but the reality of faking excitement and socializing with a huge group… that’s where the fantasy falls apart. The whole concept can be utterly exhausting for introverts.

2. Calling someone they don’t know

Introverts are often fine with calling their close friends and family, but chatting on the phone with someone they just met is incredibly nerve-wracking. Even after a great first date, initiating that first call takes a huge amount of courage. They might play out the perfect conversation in their head, but in reality, it’s still way outside their comfort zone and not something they’re keen to actually do.

3. Telling off someone who hurt them

Sometimes, when an introvert feels wronged, their mind spins up a powerful revenge fantasy. They picture bumping into that bully from school, or that ex who messed them over, and finally unleashing all the anger they’ve kept bottled up. It’s a dark daydream, but it feels so satisfying to picture them squirming under the truth.

4. Hosting a wonderful dinner party

Going to dinner parties is stressful enough for many introverts, so hosting a dinner definitely isn’t going to happen. However, when introverts watch smooth and confident party hosts on TV, they might fantasize about donning an apron, carving a turkey, and charming everyone with their sparkling personality.

5. Becoming a stand-up comedian

A few minutes of watching a fun stand-up comedy special is enough to make a reserved introvert daydream about what it would be like to be on that stage and make people laugh with all the hilarious nuggets that come to them during the day when they’re observing the world. In reality, they wouldn’t dare set foot on a stage like that. Talk about a nightmare!

6. Having a bunch of roommates

It’s difficult for introverts to live with other people because they value their personal space and don’t want to tiptoe around the house like a skittish cat. However, whenever they watch Friends reruns, they can’t help but imagine having tons of laughs, adventures, and fun with cool roommates.

7. Attending a big party on their own

While introverts might like going to some social gatherings (as long as they know someone there, that is!), they can’t deny they sometimes feel a little jealous of extroverts who seem to have it all together. They can rock up at any party and just have a blast, without looking awkward in the corner. Ah, to be comfortable in one’s skin!

8. Making snap decisions

Introverts like to think things through properly before making big decisions, but sometimes they’ll daydream about making snap decisions on the fly, whether accepting someone’s offer to go on a first date or going to a party at the last minute. They just can’t fly by the seat of their pants. That’s not how introverts operate.

9.  Ignoring micro-interactions

It’s easy for introverts to catch micro-interactions more than other people. These are the tiny, split-second facial expressions that people display. Sometimes, though, it would be nice not to notice them, especially if they’re negative, so they could continue enjoying themselves without the added anxiety.

10. Doing extreme sports with a group of people they don’t know

It sometimes looks like fun to hang out with a group of people you don’t know, exploring something new, such as hiking or abseiling. While this isn’t something introverts are likely to do, they might be tempted at times because it always looks so exhilarating when others do it.

11. Leading a protest

If there’s something an introvert believes in strongly, they might daydream about starting a protest to express these beliefs to the world. The problem is their shyness or self-consciousness could hold them back, leading them to find other ways to support important causes.

12. Going on a road trip

Road trips always look like so much fun in the movies. All that laughter and taking snaps of the landscape that’s flying by — it seems so carefree, which is refreshing for introverts who don’t always find it easy to be relaxed and at ease. Of course, once they start imagining the cramped car and having to spend time with people 24-7, they’ll be put off the idea!

13. Becoming a reality TV star

Reality TV shows might be a blast for introverts to watch in the comfort of their home, but they might also imagine themselves on “Love Is Blind” or “Survivor,”  especially if there’s an introvert in the cast who makes it look cool and exciting. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately!), their complete distaste for being in the spotlight means the never actually apply.

14. Packing up and going to live in a new city with their bestie

When life gets overwhelming, introverts often escape into a fun fantasy. Packing away their lives and moving to a new city with their best friend sounds like the perfect reset. A fresh start without the pressure of dating and the usual routine – it’s the ultimate stress-free dream.
